ASA Statement Regarding the Mohawk Mothers and the New Vic Project

September 27th, 2023

The Anthropology Student Association stands in support of the Mohawk Mothers. The Mothers are a dedicated group focused on collecting data regarding the medical experiments conducted at the Allen Memorial Institute during the 1950s and 1960s. They are currently involved in a legal dispute with promoters of the New Vic project, namely McGill and the government of Quebec, with the aim of delaying any future excavations of the former Royal Victoria Hospital site until a thorough archaeological inquiry is carried out. Their primary objective is to safeguard any potential hidden evidence of unmarked graves while ensuring that the protocols of Kaianere'kó:was, (or the Great Law of Peace), are honoured at the location.

Please check out their website for more information, and attend the Teach-In organized by the ASA on October 25th, 2023 in Leacock 232 from 12:30 to 2:30 pm. Here is an article from The Tribune demanding action from McGill and the student body.
